Write out some possible Headlines/ Tag Lines/ Questions to the Viewer you will have as your main piece of font communication for this design Idea 1: Company logos becoming regular and uniform for little reason - Fashion similar to Soviet propaganda posters 1. "Coke joins the glorious angular revolution" 2. "The revolution of a new era" Idea 2: Indie things have been tending to perform better than AAA - Fashion similar to something from 20th century/pixelated 3. "AAA developers to go retro" Idea 3: News/tabloids/etc. cover unimportant things about celebrities lives/most famous celebrities tend to express little emotion or character - Imitate actual magazines 4. "Local man eats hamburger, scandalous details inside" 5. Time Person of the Year - Papyrus from Undertale "How a skeleton outperformed the rest for true realism" - maybe a different video game character For my choice illustration, I decided to try and elaborate a little bit on a few doodles I've drawn before. Each of these was inspired by or is an attempt at recreating a weapon in a game. The top two are supposed to be gun-blades, which were drawn with a direct source image for inspiration. The rest, from the left to right, are supposed to be a bladed shield (with minimal success), a war-hammer, a dagger/knife, and a katana. The lighting behaved a bit strangely on the shading in the gun-blades, which is why they appear greyish-white in areas they shouldn't. For a first time in trying to flesh out these doodles, I would call this a moderate success for adding at least a bit more detail, though with some troubles with necessary shading.
"The leaves are falling like they're falling in love with the ground" -Andrea Gibson
The quote, while new to me until I found it through google, felt like an interesting quote to illustrate. I decided to illustrate the quote literally, similar to how it talks literally about the leaves falling. Because the word 'falling' was the main word in this quote, I tried to show it as such, making their font contrasting with the other words. I noted that the sentence can be separated into two individual sentences, so I tried to incorporate the second of the sentence as part of the trunk and ground, while having the prior section as the leaves. The main things I focused on in the drawing was trying to incorporate and fit the letters into the simple background elements with varying degrees of success. For this assignment, I started by simply thinking of what short phrases I know that could be illustrated simply, but recognizably. I decided on the phrase "no popo" from the game Nuclear Throne. I chose the statement because the phrase is easily separated into three two letter parts, making it easy to fit it into the three sections of a police light, which came from the statement itself. I also used a police light for the illustration so that I could practice shadows and lighting a little bit, which mostly occurred on the middle "po." The consistency of an o in every two letter section combined with the fact the whole statement is in lower case also helped the emphasis on the fact the light is supposed to be symmetrical, despite the fact it clearly isn't. The main trouble I had with the assignment was with the shadows/lighting around the middle and the presentation of the outside sections being lights, though this was what I was aiming to improve in the first place. I also had a few problems with the 3D rendering of the letters, but that happened mostly with the curves on the Ps.
Uses cassette tape dimensions. Designed for the collection of artists and music used in the game Hotline Miami.
The warm up itself wasn't that bad. The main problems I had with it was just getting the ideas for each word to go with the song. The mediums themselves weren't too difficult to use. For some words I started by sketching out ideas for individual letters and went from there.
